I have seen very little dialogue here, so I have one question for any willing to interject.

Define "New Age" and its theological application.

Sentinus

From my dated understanding, the "New Age" was describing something like when the apogee of the suns orbit moves into a new constellation as a matter of very real and testable astronomical movements... The dawning of the age of Aquarius was a literal even when this measurable point entered into the Aquarius constellation sometimes late last century (could probably google it to the minute)...

This event was also believed to align certain celestial objects, creating a unique gravitational pull on the earth, and us, which could actually alter the energy fields and forces, and the physical mass they had an impact on, theoretically causing a subtle, but elemental paradigm shift in the way reality worked and progressed... (remember the "harmonic convergence" hype?) Some believe that evolution is not just a drawn out, unnoticeable process, but that it may be punctuated by dramatic leaps brought on by things like astronomical alignments, global catastrophe or ultra-rare solar flares...whatever could markedly change what we thought of as normal at the time...

...including the collective human will... It is here where the very real and natural, and sometimes coincidental or impressive movement of the heavens we use the science of astronomy to understand, crosses into astrology, and both the influence that external forces have on us, and the influence w can have on them, starts to blur...

Some believe we are due for our next evolutionary leap, maybe into NeoSapien or SolarMan (whatever those are)...and metaphysics, imagination, spirituality, anticipation of our own death, the unknown, and the vulnerability that comes with that, compound into speculative belief systems and varying, somewhat competing religions... We have reached a point, simply by finally maturing enough to recognize and understand this, that we no longer need to wait for a natural, cosmic event to trigger our next leap...we can will it...

...but that takes what is called "critical mass", or a catalystic amount of like, enlightened minds thinking in unison, that will have the same sort of impact on key forces as whatever used to push us into a more advanced state...

It makes an odd sense and has a reasonable plausibility to it which can be quite seductive on a paranormal level... Quantum physics is finding evidence that mind and attention itself can have an actual effect over matter...Strange things are indeed converging...

~and I'm rambling and probably leaving the impression I'd advocate for such cryptic, humanistic beliefs... I'll stop reminiscing and finish up with my current, mature and new creaturly conclusion in the near future...
