Ok, another poster supposedly quoted Frank Schaeffer, junior as "becoming God." It is hard to know the context of what he said exactly, especially if this a radio quotation. So I thought I would place this is a more discussion oriented atmosphere.

The term I believe we are actually discussing is "theosis."

2 Peter 1.4 look at "theoias"--Greek 2304. The whole phrase is genEsthe theoias koinOnoi phuseOs--γένησθε θείας κοινωνοὶ φύσεως

1) a general name of deities or divinities as used by the Greeks
2) spoken of the only and true God, trinity
a) of Christ
b) Holy Spirit
c) the Father

First, if this is a direct quote of Frank Schaeffer, it is very likely he did not mean "God" but could have stated "god." There is a huge difference. The article I linked above from orthodoxwiki should clear up the matters. However, just to show the scripture verse used in the article, the interlinear shows for good reference the Strong's numbering. That we take on immortality, I believe shows us partaking in the divine nature. We are in essence becoming theoias, divinity. Hence, in a Greek society, we would be like gods having a particular immutable nature, but this does not mean that we become equal to God or supercede him. We will be in a sense the envy of angels.

I imagine that E.O. Deification is Sanctification/ purification, not Justificat'n by transferrance of Christ's Right-eous-ness.

But Chants that E.O. Monks conduct resemble Buddhism & Hinduism
