    Default Question about the Tetragrammaton

I wanted to ask you all about the Tetragrammaton or YHWH/ Yahweh. Does it bug anyone else that YHWH or Yahweh is replaced by Lord in many places even in the Authorized Version of scripture ? Also wasn't Jesus's jewish name Yeshua ? Just so you know I'm not apart of the Sacred Name Movement, but it does concern me a bit though. Thanks in advance.

I wish more people would post on here. Seems like the only threads getting any action is in the Mormon room. * Crickets*

Tis true my friend, Tis True, but it still kind of bugs me for some reason still. It makes you wonder though if it was a conspiracy of the enemy to specifically keep people from saying God's name or even knowing His name. Kind of weird.

I believe that the word the Bible used, is -
    http://www.learnthebible.org/abba.html

    "abba'
we understand the term means "father" but that word father lacks the real personal weight that abba should have.

a better word is "pop".....or "papa"

In my own life the best word I could use that is very close to the truth of Abba would be "daddy"

In my work reaching out to the CULTs, (mostly the JWs) I ran into the issue of the Tetragrammaton many times.
The JW's love this issue because they have their own answer for what God's name should be (Jehovah) .

I also have had to deal with the believers in the "Yahweh" name, and how strongly they feel about that.

I do know that at the start of many if not all good Study Bibles that there is likely found a section dealing with the names of God, like "lord" and "YHWH" etc.
Mostly what you learn when you dig into this subject is that the word "YHWH" can not actually be pronounced as it is the left-overs of yet anther word once all the vowels had been removed.

You learn that even the name we see commonly used to pronounce ""Yahweh" is actually just an invented word made out of the letters of one words and the vowels of another mixed in with it.

So, what this means to me?
It means that it's not worth getting too excited over, as the whole thing is way too mixed up by now for us to really worry about....and it is NOT worth fighting over now...

Next: the correct name for Jesus:

I dont speak Hebrew, so there is no way I can correctly pronounce the word "Yeshua"
I have heard real Jewish Scholars say this name, and the word they manage to form with their lips is so strange to my ears and way of speaking, that I just nod my head and move on to a different topic that I can learn how to do...

However, along the way I did attend a few Bible Studies that dealt with the correct name for Jesus, and I managed to learn one little bit of trivia from my teachers...

    What I learned was this:
The name Jesus was given by the angel to Mary....is a name that pops up in 2 other places in the Bible for the name of 2 other guys.

So this name itself had some long history with the Jewish people, and in a very real way the Jewish people are very familiar with Christ's given-name....

Joshua in the Old testament has the same basic name as what Jesus was given by the angel.....

    and another person.

Elisha also had this same basic name that Jesus was given.

The odd part of them two other guys is the connection they have with Jesus.
Consider that Joshua came after Moses.
Moses in a very big way gets a lot more of the attention but in a very real way Joshua did way more than Moses did.

Elisha came after Elijah, a more well-known Bible personality, yet in the end Elisha had twice the spirit of power than Elijah had (see 2nd KINGS 2:9)
Yet Elijah had to come first.

This fits with the life of Jesus in a weird way too, as Jesus came after John the more widely known and respected Baptist.

So all 3 guys, share more or less the same name.
There is a slight difference in the Hebrew wording Im told, but it's the same basic name.
