"We are told in the scriptures that Jesus Christ is the only begotten son of
God in the flesh....how are children begotten? I answer, just as Jesus was
begotten of his Father. The Christian denominations believe that Christ was
begotten not of God, but of the spirit that overshadowed his mother. THIS IS
NONSENSE. Why will they not believe the Father when He says that Jesus Christ
is His Only Begotten Son? Why will they try to EXPLAIN THIS TRUTH AWAY and
make mystery of it?" (as quoted from Joseph F. Smith, 'Box Elder Times,' Sep.
    22, 1914).
Joesph F. Smith makes a distinction between Christian denominations and TCJCLDS. Not just Christian denominations but THE Christian denominations carrying forth the idea at the onset of TCJCLDS is not a Christian denomination. Separate and distinct from THE Christian Denominations.

In more modern times Church leaders still denied that they are part of the Christian Body.. The insistence is that there is nothing among the churches of the Christian denominations that is right, that only the LDS church is the only true Church. Good thing we don't put much stock in man made thing like denominationalism. To us Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life. The Church we attend makes no difference while we have Him within us.. Anyway this is what is taught in mormonism today on the subject:

This is not just another Church. This is not just one of a family of Christian churches. This is the Church and kingdom of God, the only true Church upon the face of the earth . . . (Teachings of Ezra Taft Benson, pp. 164-165)
