    Default Works or Faith?

    Hi DB,
    In one of your posts you said,
    <Disciple--the faith alone preach a gospel of salvation independent of following Christ. They preach a gospel of--first--being saved through faith--without any acts of obedience to Jesus Christ.>

    In light of your comment above, it seems you are saying that acts of obedience must precede salvation.
    If that is indeed what you believe than how do you interpret the following scriptures?

    “knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law; for by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified.” Gal 2:16

    “This only I want to learn from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?” Gal 3:2

    The Christian does not think God will love us because we are good, but that God will make us good because He loves us.” – C.S. Lewis

    Hi Disciple:

    I interpret that to mean we can't be saved through the Mosaic Law--but through the gospel of Jesus Christ--as contained in the NT:

    2 Thessalonians 1:7-9---King James Version (KJV)
    7 And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels,
    8 In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:
    9 Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;

    My question to you--is obedience to the gospel necessary in order to obtain salvation?

    How can you be obedient to the gospel when you are dead in tresp***es and sin, when you are God's enemy?

    How did Cornelius receive revelation? How was it he received the Holy Ghost AFTER he received a revelation? How did he fear God, when he didn't know of Christ...and was a gentile?

    Acts 10:34 Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons: But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.

    Act 10:44 While Peter yet spake these words (teaching Cornelius and his group of Jesus Christ), the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.

    Can you please explain your thinking in terms of Cornelius and what happened to him?

    Many people get caught up in this faith or works as they do not read Paul nor James correctly. they get hung up on key words like 'faith' or 'works' then ignore the rest of the p***ages of scripture describing the theme of the discussion. salvation is by grace through faith not of works lest any one should boast BUT that does not mean we do not do good works. we do good works to show our faith in God, our good works comes from our faith because we believe God and obey his instructions such as;

    do unto others...
    return good for evil...
    do not lie...
    as yo did unto the least of these...

    and so on. by receiving salvation we are now under the obligation to obey Jesus and God and they instruct us NOT to do evil but good which means that we have received our salvation by faith now our good works begin in order to help others so that they will experience God and receive salvation through their own faith.

    Still avoiding the question.

    Hi Disciple:

    God justified all men in His Atonement, as a free gift to all of mankind--

    Romans 5:18---King James Version (KJV)
    18 Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.

    IOW--the condemnation which befell all men due to the fall--is absolved in Christ for all of mankind.

    Now--all men may inherit eternal life, by obeying the Redeemer's conditions:

    Hebrews 5:9---King James Version (KJV)
    9 And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;

    1 Timothy 4:16--King James Version (KJV)
    16 Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.
