Where did the RCC get this silly idea that the priests could not marry?
Where did the RCC get this silly idea that the priests could not marry?
Leviticus 21:1 ¶ And the LORD said unto Moses, Speak unto the priests the sons of Aaron, and say unto them, There shall none be defiled for the dead among his people:
Leviticus 21:13 And he shall take a wife in her virginity.
Leviticus 21:14 A widow, or a divorced woman, or profane, [or] an harlot, these shall he not take: but he shall take a virgin of his own people to wife.
Leviticus 21:15 Neither shall he profane his seed among his people: for I the LORD do sanctify him.
Where did Roman Catholicism get the idea that Priests can not marry? Even Aaron who was the high priest had sons and Leviticus says to take a virgin of his own people to wife and not to profane his seed.
1 Timothy 4:1 ¶ Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
1 Timothy 4:2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;
1 Timothy 4:3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.

From what i have understood from when I had to learn about this idea in Bible School...
a long time ago the catholic church had a big problem that came about when higher church office started to get p***ed down in family, from Father to son.
The real problem was that church property and the intake of money was being taken and used by the family of a Catholic minister...
Also, church property was being sold and the money kept within the family ...
Soon what happens is that being a Christian minister was seen as a 'family business"
Church property was seen as "family property"
Church money was seen a personal "family money"
You have much the same issue today in other branches of the christian church where you see a well known TV preacher handing over the "business" to his son...
You see this a lot going on now where TV preachers are raising money and converting it into homes, cars, and property that belong to their own family.
The answer the catholic church came up with to get control of the situation was to ban marriage of their ministers.
Now you can be married and a Catholic minister, but you have to be married before you take orders...as many guys are doing to allow themselves to have a wife and still answer their calling to serve the church.
